Windows 10 "End of Life"

Microsoft’s most popular operating system has been declared “End of Life” (EOL). What does that mean for organisations still using it?

EOL refers to the point at which a software product is no longer supported or maintained by its developer.

In this case, that means as of October 14th 2025, Microsoft will cease all technical support for Windows 10. Software updates, bug fixes, and – most critically – security patches will no longer be provided.

What's the Risk?

Flaws and gaps exist in any system’s security, and in the case of the most popular operating system in the world, they’re sure to be uncovered sooner rather than later.

An unsupported or EOL operating system will never close those gaps, leaving you open to attack vectors like malware and ransomware — costing your business time, reputation, and money it might not be able to afford.

The Fix? Upgrade to Windows 11

Microsoft’s newest operating system is fully supported, and will remain so for quite some time. In addition to improved security features, Windows 11 is designed for a more hybrid work environment, meaning it more naturally supports teams and businesses who are working at a distance from each other and their customers.

What to Look Out For When You Upgrade

  • Certifications. If you don’t get underway with an upgrade programme soon, you could be putting any cyber security certifications you have at risk – including Cyber Essentials.

  • Compatibility. Not all devices are capable of supporting Windows 11. Make sure you don’t get caught out with a big hardware bill out of the blue by checking whether your organisation’s devices are capable of making the switch.

  • Time.  Implementing an operating system upgrade across an organisation of any size can take dozens or even hundreds of admin hours – and that’s without having to worry about group policies and global settings.

Keep Ahead of the Curve

Trustack can support you with your upgrade by ensuring an automatic deployment across compatible machines, and by delivering fully configured new devices to employees’ desks.

We can also make sure security policies are deployed consistently across your organisation, so that no gaps appear during what can be a tricky period of change.
